Cheung Chau is a favourite with locals for its beaches, cafés and boutiques; at weekends people tour it by bike, snacking on giant fishballs, grilled squid and mango mochi, with seafood on the promenade (HKTB).
Getting there
Ferries leave Central Pier 5; the crossing takes about 35 to 60 minutes (HKTB).
The Bun Festival
In May, the Cheung Chau Bun Festival coincides with Buddha’s Birthday, with parades and festivities (HKTB).
Hire a bike and eat your way round.
Our advice: go on a weekday to avoid the crowds.
